Abstract/Summary:
Detection of incipient faults requires real time radio noise prediction. The parameters affecting radio noise generation on transmission lines are classified as climatic and design parameters.;A model is presented where radio noise levels in real time and fair weather condition are predicted.;Corona radio noise spectrum measurements were obtained in a high voltage laboratory to test the model.;Radio noise meters are used near the transmission lines to receive the radio noise and the noise is recorded in a recorder and the information is sent to central computer. If the measured value is higher than the predicted value, then an incipient fault is likely to exist at the location of measurement.
