Work has been done to develop a visible Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer (IFTS) for the field of hyperspectral imaging, a new arena of technological endeavor. Efforts were undertaken to develop a performance model for the IFTS instrument in the spectral domain and obtain data from such a sensor. The model includes inputs from the target, atmosphere, foreoptics, instrument, camera, and noises from all these sources. Model output includes input spectrum, recovered spectrum, signal-to-noise ratio, and signal interferogram, which simulates the instruments as closely as possible. The existing instrument has been used at the Malabar Test Facility and the Starfire Optical Range to observe a wide range of phenomenon, both natural and artificial. The data obtained from these observations was successfully compared to the signal predicted by the model. |
