| Workplace diversity is a people issue focused on the differences and similarities that people bring to an organization. Also, there may be distinctions between culture, religion, mental or physical abilities, heritage, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and other characteristics. Diversity is those human qualities that are different from our own and outside the domain, to which we belong; yet, present in other individuals and groups. It is important to understand how these dimensions affect performance, motivation, success, and interactions within the workplace. The research questions in this dissertation seek to address the Waste and Recycling Company inability to cope with diverse issues in the absence of diversity planning. Diverse issues such as race and discrimination may impact large-scale organizations. However, if diversity is not managed properly within the organizational environment or in the workplace and discrimination is not addressed (Kent, 2005), equal opportunities for diverse workers will not be sustained. Also, the workplace becomes unbalanced. The goal of this dissertation is to bring awareness to the management in the Waste and Recycling Company executives on how to cope with race and discrimination through effective diversity management. Diversity management aims at reducing discrimination and promoting equal opportunities for diverse workers. The strategy has been utilized by industry leaders to promote the perception, acknowledgment, and implementation of diversity in organizations and institutions to balance the working environment.
