his dissertation describes the sequences attribute method developed to determine quantitative relationships between protein secondary structure and amino acid sequence's physical chemical and statistical properties. A sequence attribute is defined as a numerical characteristic calculated from the properties of a contiguous set of amino acids. Two types of sequence attributes are identified: chemical and statistical. Hydropathy and hydrophobic moment, averaged over a set of contiguous amino acids, are examples of chemical attributes.
