Abstract/Summary:
The radiation characteristics of imperfectly conducting antenna of revolution with arbitrarily varying surface impedance along the constant {dollar}phi{dollar} contour are studied. Formulated by the Electric Field Integral Equation and solved by method of moment which uses the Hermite expansion functions as both the basis and weighting functions, a numerical tool is developed for the radiation characteristics of the imperfectly conducting antenna of revolution.; The radiation characteristics of antenna of revolution with magnetic ring current source, including radiation patterns, input admittance, radiation efficiency and surface current, are presented. The results of surface current are validated by the Mie series solution for the case of constant impedance sphere excited by a electric dipole.; The effects of geometry such as cylindrical, prolate spheroidal and biconical antennas are presented in this study. Broadband radiation characteristics are shown for both absorbing and reactive surface impedance loadings as a special function of height away from the center. The absorbing type surface impedance are more effective than reactive surface impedance in achieving a traveling wave antenna. However, the absorbing type surface impedance has a disadvantage of introducing loss.
