The purpose of this research was to explore the linkages between visual literacy and the post secondary textiles and clothing discipline and how these areas impact one another.; A qualitative case study approach was used to investigate questions regarding the impact visual literacy and its constructs has made in the teaching practices of educators in textiles and clothing and the visual literacy constructs used by these educators.; The framework of the study reviewed concepts and literature that focused on visual literacy, textiles and clothing as a means of visual communication, and the effects of visuals on teaching.; Investigative techniques included interviews and document examination. Data analysis of interview transcripts, field and journal notes and institutional documents involved an inductive and reductive process from which three primary themes emerged: methods of instruction, multisensory experiences, and content and application of visual literacy.; The conclusions suggest that visual literacy and the post-secondary textiles and clothing discipline share linkages in theory, practice, and research. Also, the development and refinement of post-secondary textiles and clothing pedagogy can continue to be enhanced through the use of instructional visuals in the classroom.; Recommendations are presented to visual literacy and textiles and clothing practitioners as well as for future research by scholars in these areas.
