Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation investigates the experiences of four tribal leaders, who, as repatriation movement leaders, have worked under the provisions of NAGPRA to secure the release of their ancestors and their sacred objects. It asks how tribes have experienced the implementation of the law, changed or not changed their approach to the repatriation process and how the law has affected and influenced their struggle for reburial. This study assumes that each tribe's experiences in the repatriation movement have been different.
