Abstract/Summary:
Infidelity is a common and one of the toughest problems that a large number of couples will face during their relationship. This proposal intends to evaluate the foundations of the Retrouvaille techniques: communication in couples, personality styles, the five "D's" self-knowledge, knowledge of partner, and conflict management for treating interpersonal emotional trauma in Hispanic couples who experience infidelity. A qualitative method will be utilized to analyze the results of archival data from a formulated interview to obtain the effectiveness of these foundations for treating interpersonal emotional trauma. It is expected for each partner in the relationship to deal with the interpersonal emotional trauma, recognize the unresolved inner conflicts of each one, be able to emphasis in accepting the need to make personal changes of those negative repetitive behaviors to healthier ones, learn to communicate their inner emotions in the relationship in depth and take the other partner's position to be open to their emotions; be more conscious of each other interchanging thoughts, ideas, opinions and attitudes, been able to make decisions to move on, make a commitment, and decision to forgive oneself and each other to accomplish emotional equilibrium in their personal lives.
