Abstract/Summary:
This replication study investigated differences in the demographic (age, gender, race, geography, length of stay), clinical factor (DSM IV diagnosis), and client/family strengths factors between clients with positive and those with negative treatment outcomes at Delaware Guidance Services Intensive Outpatient Program. There has been a limited amount of research on the relationship between these factors and treatment outcomes in the state of Delaware. However, most related research has been descriptive and focused on the intensive outpatient program client characteristics. The target population consisted of 206 children and adolescents ranging from 6 to 18 years old (6-12 age group 37% and 13-18 group 63%) in Delaware Guidance Services Intensive Outpatient Program. Two years of archival data were obtained for periods between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2012. Descriptive statistics, frequency count, T-tests, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and chi-square analysis were used to reveal significant differences between factors and client outcomes. Results indicated that there was not a significant effect of any variables on treatment outcome except length of stay (LOS). Chi-square showed significance for LOS and treatment outcome as the p value = .003, <.05. Overall, there were no other factors that proved significant in distinguishing between positive and negative outcome groups.
