Abstract/Summary:
The definition of obligatory running suggests a compulsive aspect to running behavior. The literature on running and compulsive behavior has been limited. Using runners from a marathon training group, this study found non-obligatory runners to score higher on measures of compulsive behavior than obligatory runners. However, both groups were below the norm for pathology. In addition, this study investigated daily stressors and found obligatory runners to perceive less daily stressors than non-obligatory runners.
