Abstract/Summary:
The environmental and thermal performance of a 1.07 diameter, 440 kW atmospheric fluidized bed combustor was studied. Flue gas recirculation was incorporated to enhance the thermal performance and air staging was used to control the emissions of SO;With a data base of more than 2,300 measurements, the results showed that the thermodynamic analysis applied to a more traditional burner could be used to develop the firing equation and predict the thermal performance of this system. The trend of the stack loss, wall loss, firing rate and thermal efficiency were in good agreement with previous findings. Combustion efficiency (0.96) was not significantly different between all six modes of operation. The recirculation-staging mode with limestone had the highest thermal efficiency (0.67) using the firing equation. From the pollutant emissions standpoint, there was evidence to show that air staging reduced the NO...
