| A weighted objective function for the facility layout problem that attempts to effectively combine the adjacency-based objective and distance-based objective is presented. We develop and present a genetic algorithm heuristic for the facility layout problem. We present three versions of our approach and illustrate how it improves upon the best known solutions to test problems from the literature. An iterative approach that iterates between the genetic algorithm and mixed-integer program is developed to solve the facility layout problem. |
