Abstract/Summary:
These studies demonstrated that Arabidopsis is generally susceptible to infection by two strains of beet curly top virus (BCTV) designated as Logan and CFH. Surveys of various Arabidopsis ecotypes revealed that most ecotypes developed disease symptoms when inoculated with BCTV but not others. Analysis of viral DNA accumulation and replication suggested that the resistance of two ecotypes was due to a block in viral movement. Genetic studies of these two ecotypes indicated that resistance was due to distinct single recessive loci. Another ecotype was found to be hypersusceptible to the BCTV-Logan in that it developed very severe symptoms including severely deformed inflorescences with callus-like structures.
