Abstract/Summary:
Although the literature addresses e-commerce success, the literature does not examine success of launching web sites. The goal of this dissertation was to identify critical success factors for launching a high-volume, high-traffic web site. A four-round web-based Delphi study was conducted to address this question. Participants were experts with authority over organizational web sites. Fifty factors were identified in round one. The resulting factors were categorized as functionality factors, infrastructure factors, security factors, and organizational factors. The 25 most important factors were ranked in the final Delphi round. These most important factors include: usefulness of the site to visitors and users, visitor/user experience, site stability and reliability, site organization, public awareness of the site, site is able to support volume, and ease of navigation of site. Limitations of this dissertation include the small number of panelists and the limited scope of the question addressed. Future research may address testing the model identified and determining if organizational characteristics impact which factors are relevant.
