Abstract/Summary:
The lack of alignment of organization members towards the organizational strategy leads to poor execution. This study was carried out to improve the members' alignment using a process called Dynamic Strategic Alignment (DSA). DSA integrates sociotechnical systems, collaborative research, and information systems.; The study took place in a Mexican Manufacturing Corporation (MMC) with several plants located in different cities. MMC had been affected by a national economic downturn. Management sought a systematic process to improve the employees' alignment with the corporate strategy; they believed DSA had the potential to accomplish this goal.; DSA utilizes a sociotechnical protocol to identify variables that affect an organizations' alignment. It employs collaborative research methods to engage team projects from various functional and geographic "silos" in the process of creating actionable knowledge regarding strategy, strategic alignment, and strategy execution. DSA also utilizes a suite of intelligent business software to track performance and improve alignment. In addition, a multi-keyboard computer system enables participants to quickly capture, classify and validate opinions and preferences during all group sessions.; The study used scientific data collection and analysis methods to generate actionable knowledge and increase alignment. Alignment improved in 7 ways, including: increased understanding of the need to change; increased desire for common vision and strategy; increased desire to deal with customers and suppliers as a single entity; and strategy alignment maps of each of the company's' areas with the overall strategy.; The study produced 5 findings categories regarding the use of DSA in other organizations. These include the findings that deal with ways to increase alignment and self designed models, which is one of DSA's foundations.; The use of Dynamic Strategic Alignment to develop organizational capability is proposed for future studies.
