Given the benefits associated with collaborative learning, this approach to learning may provide a means to improve the learning experience for urban high school learners, if it is designed according to these learners' characteristics and their learning environments. This mixed-method research study collected views from 50 participants who have interacted with urban high school learners during collaborative learning through a web-based descriptive survey. A summary of the survey results was presented to a group of 10 participants who have made instructional decisions related to collaborative learning. Based on these results, their knowledge, and experience these participants posted their views to a restricted and interactive Edublog on how the information gathered from the survey could be used to inform the design for collaborative learning for these learners. The participants recommended a design that supports content mastery, cognitive and interactive skills development, effective technology integration, and use of flexible collaborative scripts among other suggestions. |
