Abstract/Summary:
Storyboards from the Republic of Palau emerged during the Japanese administration of the islands in the 1930s and is one of the most recognizable and notable forms of art from the Micronesian region, particularly as a form of commoditized or tourist art. A visual analysis of the storyboards within an historical framework identifies the art objects as conveyors of cultural information and establishes the objects as significant expressions of the historical, political, and economic climates in the Republic of Palau.
