As a result of the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Iranian-Americans have found themselves migrating to the United States in search of a new beginning. Though there is more research on first-generation Iranian-American mental health, there is little information on Depression within second-generation Iranian-Americans. Explored within this project are areas as it related to the struggles of Iranian-American immigrants and second-generation youth as they explore acculturation and adapting to a new society. With respect to second-generation youth, issues pertaining to identity are addressed as it relates to understanding ones development. Exploring depression and working with Iranian-Americans, treatment implications are suggested to mental health professionals in hopes of working with a sensitive and culturally appropriate treatment approach. As part of this dissertation project, a critical review of literature as well as information from expert field consultants has been created in order to effectively disseminate critical literature. A PowerPoint presentation was created to disseminate information regarding this topic to other professionals and to encourage further research.;Keywords: second-generation; Iranian-American; Depression; youth... |
