Abstract/Summary:
The information presented in this paper is an attempt to inform teachers, parents, mental health professionals and others who work with children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), of the symptoms, treatments, and preventive measures associated with the disorder. The paper discusses the possibility that the benefits of exercise may have a positive effect on both physical health and academic performance. The study presented is a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test control group design, which incorporates mini-exercise breaks (based on the Brain Gym philosophy) into the daily classroom schedule for reducing disruptive ADHD-type behaviors during in-desk time. Results indicated that participants in the treatment condition had a significantly greater change in their ADHD-type behaviors than did participants in the control condition.
