Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this descriptive study is to examine Salem County, New Jersey's public school districts' administrators, cafeteria workers and custodians to determine the employee's personal concerns towards food and solid waste. This study examines how the fourteen school districts report their participation as a protector of the environment by electronically distributing a food and solid waste questionnaire. An email interview was conducted with the Division Manager at the Salem County, New Jersey Improvement Authority -- Solid Waste Division to determine if schools could gain a net savings from composting food waste. To assist school districts with food and solid waste reduction ideas and recommendations, professional food preparation and storage, recycling, and composting guidelines are included in this dissertation.
