Abstract/Summary:
An improved version of a kinetic simulation technique, the Convective Scheme (CS) is described. We present a ‘long-lived moving cell’ version of the CS and its detailed recipe. With the new scheme, the numerical diffusion is highly reduced even in nearly collisionless plasma systems, which is important in the modeling of low pressure high density plasma sources. This new technique is benchmarked with a swarm experiment. The application to a 1D rf discharge shows the numerical diffusion is highly reduced.; The CS is then applied to a 2D micro-flow system. We describe how the CS is implemented so as to handle reflecting boundary conditions very accurately. Next, a collision operator for the self-collisions of the neutral gas has been developed which conserves momentum and energy ‘exactly’ so as to correctly calculate physical quantities.; To explore 3D simulation for the CS or other applications, a new 3D advancing front mesh generator is constructed. Partial derivatives based on the box integration in higher dimensions are also discussed.
