Abstract/Summary:
In the central dogma of molecular biology, DNA→RNA→proteins, protein folding remains the missing link between gene sequence and three-dimensional protein structure. There is a direct correlation between three-dimensional protein structure and function. Thus, understanding protein folding will aide in structure-function algorithm predictions and will shed light on protein misfolding and amyloidoses. In this dissertation, two proteins, amylin and KIX, are used as model systems for studying protein misfolding and folding, respectively.
