Abstract/Summary:
The threat landscape that must be navigated by organizations continually evolves, creating new threats everyday. This required a firm to develop and maintain resources and personnel to defend against these changing threats. However, many organizations found it challenging to accomplish the cyber defense levels required to function in today's threat environment. One solution was to leverage the expertise and economies of scale possessed by a managed security services provider through an outsourcing strategy. The purpose of this research was to complete a qualitative analysis of the critical success factors of outsourcing IT security services to a third party, as identified by security leadership of a Fortune 1000 organization. The study demonstrated that core competence management and stakeholder management were the two most important critical success factors, as it related to the identified theories, while cost production reduction was considered a flawed idea.
