Analysis and evaluation of learning objects for use in an introductory statistics course

Learning objects accompanying two introductory statistics texts and the publically available learning objects for introductory statistics available through the MERLOT site were evaluated. The Learning Object Review Instrument (LORI) (Nesbit et al., n.d.) was used to consistently evaluate the learning objects. Available learning objects were also analyzed as to if and how they could be incorporated into an introductory statistics course. Analysis includes where in a lesson the learning object could be included as well as the cognitive level according to Bloom's taxonomy.;The process to clarify LORI for use in an introductory statistics course is detailed. Suggestions for modifications to LORI were identified as a result of the study. The study noted several concerns about the quality and usability of the learning objects reviewed. Other researchers could use a similar process to select learning objects for their courses.
