Abstract/Summary:
With the technology explosion of the twenty-first century, schools look to provide as much access to technology as possible for their students. One-to-one laptop initiatives have been implemented in several school districts throughout the nation, and one issue that has arisen is who do teachers turn to for technology training and assistance? This paper looks at a rural school district and the problems the implementation of a one-to-one laptop initiative has created for its teachers and how they are implementing this technology within their classroom. The role the library media specialist as technology leader indicates that teachers need options for help implementing technology into their classrooms and look to the library media specialist for this help. Finding time to collaborate with the library media specialist is an issue, and teachers feel the added stress of meeting the challenges of AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress, the result of NCLB Act [No Child Left Behind] that requires schools to show that students are making progress) expectations and a constantly changing technology field.
