Juvenile facility chaplain and religious services coordinator training and resource manual

There has never been a job-specific training manual for juvenile facility Chaplains and Religious Service Coordinators (RSC) in the Indiana Department of Correction. As a result of the lack of job-specific training new hires to these positions experience a heightened level of stress and difficulty in their first few weeks or months on the job. Through this dissertation/project I have developed the Juvenile Facility Chaplain/Religious Services Coordinator Training and Resource Manual to help alleviate some of this new-job anxiety. Although the manual is specific to the Religious Services Department at Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility in Logansport, IN it is meant to be a template that can be adapted to any juvenile facility in the Indiana Department of Correction.;This dissertation/project consists of two parts: (1) the research and (2) the training and resource manual itself. The research includes a questionnaire given to current juvenile facility Chaplains and RSCs in order to receive their recommendations for the Training and Resource Manual, a manual evaluation conducted by a former Religious Services Coordinator and a Community Service/Volunteer Coordinator who may be called upon to fill a temporary RSC position as well as help train a new Chaplain, and correctional and biblical research related to prison ministry. The manual itself contains tabbed sections specifically related to the Religious Services Department at Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility.;Through this dissertation/project the Indiana Department of Correction juvenile facilities will have available a resource that will enhance a new Chaplain's or RSC's transition and job performance and Chaplains and RSCs will have specific ministry training to help guide the juvenile offenders toward the loving arms of God.
