Abstract/Summary:
Educational policy makers use standardized testing to measure school, teacher, and student success. Policy makers need research results showing the correlation between various assessments to ensure reliability of measurement. The purpose of this quantitative correlational research study was to determine the degree of correlation between the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) and Performance Series mathematics scores and the effect of student accountability on that relationship. The research design focused on middle school students' mathematics test scores. The results indicated a strong positive correlation between the two assessments in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade and a more positive correlation when students were accountable for CRCT results. Educational leaders and teachers can use test results to maximize student learning and provide additional differentiated instruction to meet students' needs.
