Abstract/Summary:
Significant attention has been given to high school reform over the past two decades. While many theorists agree that high school reform must occur if the nation is to educate its children well, there is no single reform approach that stands out as the best solution to high school renewal. This capstone project explores a reform approach used at one urban high school that focused on three school renewal concepts, blended into one approach: the use of a common instructional language, a set of professional learning processes, and a university partnership. The capstone outlines the reform approach, looks at implementation through the voices of the school's teachers, administrators, and a university professor, and suggests potential leadership actions that may be taken to strengthen and sustain this approach to high school reform.
