Abstract/Summary:
Survey research methodology was used to sample a population of 22,000 members of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) to determine the perceptions public relations professionals have about their organizations' diversity initiatives, and how those factors contribute to a professional's job satisfaction. The results of this study indicate that perceptions of a climate for diversity are related to job satisfaction. Gender and ethnic differences exist among the perceptions public relations professionals have concerning management's support of diversity initiatives, positive diversity experiences of employees, advancement opportunities of minorities, and the value employees feel through the organizations they work. Males and Caucasians rate management support and employee positive diversity experiences more favorably than do minorities and females. On the other hand, minorities and females rate minority advancement and employee value more favorably than male and Caucasian public relations professionals.
