A study investigating the addition of a forgiveness intervention to the usual treatment plan for incarcerated youth was conducted. Twelve adolescents from ages 12 to 17 were randomly assigned to either receive the correctional facility's usual treatment plan or the usual treatment plan plus a twelve-week forgiveness intervention. Measures assessing forgiveness, aggression, and social cognition were administered at pretest, post-test, and 6.5-month follow-up. The usual treatment plan plus forgiveness intervention was more effective than the control condition in improving forgiveness and reducing aggression. Implications for treating highly aggressive youth are discussed. |
