An investigation of worldviews of confessional Reformed Protestant teachers in a postmodern culture

There is a need for educational leaders at Christian affiliated institutions to understand the prospective influence of education level and religious denomination on teachers' worldviews. This quantitative study allowed for an investigation of the worldviews of teachers at two Reformed Protestant learning institutes. The participants of this study included 29 school teachers whose theological beliefs are aligned with the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith or the Westminster Confession of Faith. These Reformed Protestant teachers claimed academic associations centered on a distinct biblical worldview. The factors that shape such worldviews were largely unidentified. Recent research suggested only a small percentage of confessing Christians embrace a biblical worldview as the source and starting point for decision-making. Therefore, the goal of this study was to determine the descriptive variables of certain factors on the biblical worldview of Christian school educators. The research questions were to determine (a) if there was a difference between individuals with a graduate degree and those without a graduate degree on the Nehemiah Institute's PEERS variables (Politics, Economics, Education, Religion, Social and the total Composite score), (b) if there was a relationship between the participants' education and biblical worldview, (c) if there was a difference between Reformed individuals and Others on the PEERS variable and (d) if there was a relationship between the participants' denomination and their biblical worldview. The findings implicated no significant relationships between education level or denomination on teachers' worldview. Caution should be taken when interpreting these results because statistical power was compromised due to the small sample size. Further, no reliable conclusions can be drawn from this study due to an inappropriate reliance on inferential statistical measures when a total population was surveyed.
