The purpose of this project is to find the most effective way for a preacher to engage controversial political issues. The Hong Kong Occupy Central movement, also known as the Umbrella Movement, is the case study undertaken. Biblical findings reveal that the primary goal of church preaching is to exalt the universal and ultimate kingship of Christ by cultivating a communal, public, and private life of submission to his kingship, and through proclaiming his historical victory on the cross and his future kingdom's consummation. Pastorally, a preacher should never preach politics in ways that may jeopardize the unity and mission of the church, or the pastorate of the preacher.;When a critical sociopolitical issue is ignored in the pulpit, the Lordship of Christ, the mission of the church, and the relevance of the church are all undermined. Preachers should uphold the absolute Lordship of Christ, and that the church as the embassy of the kingdom of God is obligated to reveal its power and authority and call for people to submit to it.
