Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the study was to determine the affects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on the levels of depression experienced by family caregivers of patients with dementia. The methodology utilized a quantitative experimental research design based on a sample of 8 family members who were identified as primary caregivers. The Beck Depression Inventory 2nd Edition (BDI-II) was administered before and after six weeks of group CBT for the experimental group as a measure of pre and post depression levels for both the control and experimental groups. The results of the study were inconclusive since the differences in pre and post depression levels for the control and experimental groups were not statistically significant.
