Abstract/Summary:
The main goal of this research was to assess the levels of satisfaction among healthcare professionals and support staff at the University of Virginia Health System for a recently implemented Healthcare Information System Results Repository (HIS-RR). The Results Repository allows viewing of patient information from a variety of sources within the Health System to those directly involved in patient care and to support staff. Additionally, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of the system user's professional role on their reported levels of satisfaction. Levels of satisfaction were measured using the Questionnaire for User Satisfaction, version 7. A web-based delivery method was used for the administration of the survey with Health System employees recruited via an email request for participation. Dimensions examined were Overall User Satisfaction, Terminology and Information, Learning, System Capabilities and Screen Layout. Professional roles examined were Clinic/Unit Support Staff, Administrative Staff, Residents and Fellows, Attending Physicians, Nurses, and Others.; Healthcare professionals and support staff expressed a moderately high level of satisfaction with the HIS-RR. Attending physicians commonly reported a significantly lower degree of satisfaction than the other professional groups with the usual exception of Residents and Fellows. Though Attending Physicians expressed lower levels of satisfaction than Residents and Fellows, the difference was not statistically significant.
