Factor analysis and one-way analysis of variance were utilized in the construction and validation of the Pregnancy Decision Survey. Participants consisted of 110 women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. The women were categorized into two groups, women who chose to continue their pregnancy and women who were considering abortion. Significant differences were found between the two groups on 20 selected situational variables comprising the Pregnancy Decision Survey. Factor analysis revealed six factors consisting of relationship issues, religious beliefs, social stigma, and contextual factors. Clinical use of the Pregnancy Decision Survey during preabortion counseling is discussed, although further development of the survey is needed. |
