Abstract/Summary:
Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has been the subject of much research and controversy. It was once believed to be a disorder affecting children only; however, recent studies now indicate the disorder does not abate by adulthood. Many adults with ADHD struggle daily to maintain employment, life activities, and relationships. For some, the symptoms and associated destructive behaviors have resulted in severe problems in the workforce and multiple job loss. The purpose of this study was to explore and document the experience of job loss in adults with ADHD and the way they recovered and were successful in a new position. Using a qualitative, heuristically-directed research design, this study analyzed and documented the impact of ADHD on one's perceptions of the experience of job loss and recovery.
