Abstract/Summary:
A multi-modal, multi-family treatment program for children and adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was developed. This program was designed based upon a review of literature and past research, which suggested that an effective and comprehensive program for the treatment of ADHD would consist of multiple service modalities. The purpose of this dissertation is to provide children with ADHD and their families with a family-based, multi-modal treatment program comprised of elements of group family therapy, psychoeducation, medication treatment, behavioral interventions, and support related to ADHD. This program is designed in a group family therapy format so that the benefits of both group therapy and family therapy will be attained. Psychoeducation regarding information about ADHD, medication efficacy, and behavioral interventions will be provided to all participants. The program will also contain a significant supportive component that will utilize the positive impact of supporting others to boost the self-esteem of all family members. The ultimate goal of this treatment program is to decrease symptoms of ADHD in the children and adolescents diagnosed with the disorder, through comprehensive and efficacious multi-modal, multi-family treatment.
