Abstract/Summary:
Literature claims the rate of depression is rapidly increasing and escalating in every age group. Clinical hypnosis and mindfulness mediation can be integrated in psychotherapy to help treat depression. Evidence from the High Risk Model of Threat Perception (HRMTP) suggests individuals classified as having high or low hypnotic ability, in addition to interaction with their conscious or unconscious negative affect are at greater risk for developing psychological and/or psychophysiological disorders. Anxiety symptoms may be associated with psychological/psychophysiological distress. This research project is a quantitative single case study which represents the integration of clinical hypnosis and mindfulness meditation to help treat a client suffering from depression and anxiety. The client is classified by the HRMTP to assess his risk of mind-body illness. This study showed a more significant difference in the reduction of depressive symptoms than anxiety symptoms during treatment which incorporated hypnosis and mindfulness meditation.
