Abstract/Summary:
In the field of deformation measurement, optical methods have shown to have the advantage of full field, non-contacting and high sensitivity over conventional transducer based methods. However, when making dynamic deformation measurements, current optical techniques often require a complicated phase modulation mechanism and thus hinder a more popular use for practical applications. In the case of a non-repeatable transient event, there has been very limited application of optical measurement techniques.;A pulsed digital holography system was introduced to overcome the limitations of current optical techniques. As groundwork, the principles of digital holography were studied. The performance of the data collection system was explored with an illustration through a static deformation measurement. The capability of capturing the deformation time history was first introduced with a quasi-static experiment. Successful vibration mode measurement was achieved, and the system's capability was further expanded to characterize a non-repeatable transient wave propagation.
