Eighty plots within the Napa River watershed, Napa County, California were surveyed for moss occurrence, vascular plant occurrence, vegetation structure, and environmental variables. From the 631 specimens collected within the plots, 87 moss species are reported, with an additional 14 species reported from 400 non-plot collections around the county. Forty-one woody perennial plants were recorded within the plots. Moss distribution was significantly influenced by percent woody canopy coverage, and less significantly influenced by slope and elevation. An annotated catalog of mosses is presented with site substrate affinities indicated. Suggestions for future research and moss conservation are included. |
