| Technology leapfrogging is a phenomenon in which latecomers benefit from opportunity window and enter the new technology paradigm ahead of forerunners.With the popularization of globalization and information technology,it is common for latecomers to shift to technology leadership.For the latecomers in emerging economies,the overall environment provides them with opportunity window to technology leapfrogging.Firstly,the relatively weak technological foundation of latecomers has benefited from the rapid development of technological advances across the global,which provides the possibility of curve overtaking;Secondly,the uncertainty of market demand,the cost advantages and the scale effect in emerging economies surports latecomers with a more competitive outset for technology leapfrogging.The process of continuous growth of China’s manufacturing enterprises under the background of transitional economy is set as the research situation,focusing on their technological leapfrogging.As a method of catching-up,technology import can enable latecomers facing technological disadvantages in the context of transitional economy to obtain mature technologies and reduce technological gaps through imitation and application of product design and production,but core technologies can only rely on independent innovation.Technology import will never be able to go beyond the forerunners.However,in technological progress,latecomers often fall into two types of predicaments: "import-fall behind-re-import" and "independent innovation focuse on non-core technologies",which lead to the structural unbalance of supply and demand.Many enterprises are big but not strong.The academic researches on this issue have explained the driving factors that many companies have been able to increas e their momentum in a limited time,but has not yet presented a strong and comprehensive arguments for the failure to achieve sustained growth over a longer period of time,which results in the powerlessness of explanation for the dilemma of import cycle in emerging economies.How to rationally allocate resources based on the level of them rather than being tied up by technology should seriously be considered and handled cautiously by academias and industries.Therefore,there are theoretical and practical significance to explore and analyze the core influence mechanism of technology leapfrogging to promote the sustained growth of latecomers.Focusing on the above topic,this study conducts the following four aspects of researches:First,based on technological innovation theory,the resource-based view and dynamic analysis of competition in strategic management theory and the contingency theory in defining the technology leapfrogging stage,technological innovation strategy(TIS)and technological innovation capability(TIC)of latecomers,this study proposes the interaction effect between TIS and TIC.Furthermore,the connotation and dimension of the interaction are explicated.A theoretical analysis framework of the interaction effect between TIS and TIC is proposed to expound in addition.Second,this study exemplifies the interactive process of TIS and TIC from the exploratory case.The technology leapfrogging process of CHR Series High-speed EMUs of CRRC was set as the case analysis unit.Data encoding and analysis shows: the technology advancement of CRRC is the transforming process of TIS,,and it is also the evolving process of TIC,which is accompanied by a new conversion of TIS in the next upgradding process.There is an interaction mechanism between TIS and TIC,and the proper interaction promotes the realization of technology leapfrogging.Third,based on technological innovation theory and contingency theory,this study clarifies the interaction principium between TIS and TIC in latecmers’.technology leapfrogging process.Empirical analysis result shows that different forms of interaction between TIS and TIC,with technical efficiency as a mediator,act different effects on latecomers‘ technology leapfrogging process.In technology accumulation stage,technology import strategy and absorption capacity have an enhanced interaction on technology leapfrogging performance TLP.Independent R&D strategy and absorption capacity play an interfering interaction on TLP.In technology integration stage,technology import strategy and integration capability,independent R&D strategy and integration capability all have an enhanced interaction on TLP.In technology leapfrogging implementation stage,the independent R&D strategy and independent innovation capability have an enhanced interaction on TLP.The impact of technology import strategy and independent innovation capability on TLP is not significant.Fourth,based on system theory,the interactive path system dynamics model of TIS and TIC is established,and the interaction path is simulated.The results show that in latecomers‘ technology leapfrogging process,the improvement of TIC does not come from the increase of technology stock,but from the way of technology stock increasement.Independent innovation can inhance TIC more and faster.The interactive relationship between TIS and TIC behaves in the form of multi-stage dynamic equilibrium.From a system perspective,the technology leapfrogging of latecomers is a system characterized by the overall effect.The number of paths to achieve technology leapfrogging is converging with the continuous improvement and evolution of TIS subsystem and TIC subsystem.For latecomers,fully identify and utilize the path of interaction between TIS and TIC is able to optimize the allocation of innovation resources,which can improve technical efficiency and achieve superiority to forerunners.Through the above four progressive sub-researches,this study analyzes the important influencing factors of technology leapfrogging for latecomers in the transitional economy background--the interaction mechanism between TIS and TIC.The theoretical analysis framework,process,principium and path of the interaction mechanism are deeply disclosed,which provides a dynamic and comprehensive analysis and discussion for understanding how the valuable interaction promotes technology leapfrogging.This provides a new theoretical research perspective for the sustained growth of latecomers,and practical guidance for improving the efficiency of innovation resource allocation. |
