In recent years,in order to meet the demand for higher education in China’s economic and social development and adjustment of industrial structure,a large number of local colleges and universities is beginning to explore the construction of applied universities,and is becoming a hot issue in the field of China’s higher education.X University is a typical local undergraduate university.In the past 38 years,what kind of process of change has experienced in this local university,which is the first to learn from the experience of the University of Applied Science and technology of Germany and always adhere to the orientation of the application-oriented school running?What is the driving force of its application-based school?What factors are affected?Responding to these questions is of positive reference significance for exploring the influencing factors and running paths of local applied universities in China.Based on the ideas of "from macro to micro to macro",this study takes the local applied university in our country as the research object,selects the X University as a typical case,and uses the guidance of the neo-institutional theory to comprehensively use the research methods of institutions and micro-history research methods,problem history research methods,literature research methods,grounded theory research methods,etc.,based on the analysis of the status quo and the predicament of the construction of applied universities in China,based on the analysis of the status quo and the predicament of the construction of applied universities in China,this paper systematically explains the evolution of the application-oriented schools of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology from the four dimensions of personnel training,research services,management system,and internationalization of education.The influencing factors of application-oriented schools are analyzed in depth and strategies for building local universities in China through institutional innovation are proposed.This study has mainly formed the following conclusions:Applied universities originated in Europe and the United States and have rich practices in various countries.At present,the construction of local application-oriented universities in China is facing difficulties in terms of value,path,organization,system,and technology.The application experience of X University shows:In the aspect of running schools,the external model of talent cultivation is combined with the mode of independent exploration,the flexible model of Application type scientific research services is changing to a stable model,and the evolution of management from management to governance is the way of the construction of local application-oriented universities.Intemational schooling is a strategic tool for local applied universities.In terms of influencing factors,institutionalisomorphism,institutional networks,institutional culture,behavioral subjects,and rational knowledge are important variables that influence the construction of local application-oriented universities.Innovating the government regulation system,the market normative system,and the subjective system of local colleges and universities is an effective strategy for the transformation of local universities to application in China.
