The rapid development of the economy is raising the quality of citizens to a new high and therefore,accentuates the importance of Education.In a school,the principal shoulders the responsibility to cultivate his students and level up the standard of teaching.How accurate a principal can position his school determines,to a large extent,the future of it.Applying the method of case study,the author focuses on the Principal K of middle school J,City T,Shandong Province;staying in the middle school J for three months,the author learned the Principal K's management style;furthermore,the thesis not only covers the educational concept and the role of the Principal K,but analyzes the education atmosphere in school J.Meanwhile,through interviewing the dean of the education committee,some teachers,students and their parents,the author acknowledged the role of Principal K.Applying the method of case study,the dissertation researches on Principal K of Middle School J,City T,Shandong Province,through the indepth investigation,visiting and discussion for over 3 months in middle school J,the dissertation has comprehensively investigated and got to know Principal K's management behavior,furthermore,it not only makes research on the educational concept and the role of Principal K for the management and cultural construction in the process of managing school,but also deeply analyzes the carrying-out condition of benevolent culture in middle school J,and its influence on the teachers and students of the school.Meanwhile,through the indepth interview with some teachers and students of middle school J and discussions with the office chief of the education committee,who has a close relationship with middle school J,as well as with the school's community and some students' parents,it has understood the behavior and role of Principal K for the management and education,and the attitudes to Principal K for his role held by the school teachers,students,students' parents and so on.The author sorts out the role of a principal both at home and abroad and the research status of the principal's professional standards and analyzes the progress,achievements and the deficiencies of related research;and by referring to following theories,such as Drucker classical management theory about people and events,Mintzberg manager working nature for the classification of the manager's role and Barnard organizational elements and their responsibilities,he puts forward that the typical model of the principal's role is composed of 3 major categories---the guider,the promoter and the coordinator,including 9 roles like goal guidance,teaching guidance,moral guidance,promoting the development of school,teachers and students,relationship coordination,resource coordination and self coordination.The 3 roles of the guider,the dominator and the coordinator do not isolate from each other,which may be mixed up as a whole;the principal may play different roles in various stages of the school.Therefore,analyzing the role of the principal from the perspective of an ideal type will help promote the professional development level,management ability and educational level of the principal,as well as provide strategic reference for the role orientation and training.Secondly,by integrating the field survey and interview of the Principle K and the school,the author learned the past and present of the middle school J,and the improvement of the Principal K's profession and management skills.Through analyzing the measures and behaviors undertaken by the principal K during his office period for the development of the school,the professional development of teachers and the growth of students,as well as the role of Principal K,the author summarizes his the principal's leadership role,finds out his deficiencies in the process of role playing,and helps him solve the existing problems.Thirdly,the thesis demonstrates the ideal type of the principal's role by systematically analyzing the fulfillment of the Principal K on his 3 major categories---the guider,the dominator and the coordinator and 9 roles.For the guiding role,the principal should formulate scientific and reasonable development goal and vision,guide the teaching well and take the primary responsibility for high quality schooling;in the meantime,the principal should guide the moral development of teachers and students and realize the adjustment of leadership pattern in the school.For the promoter role,the principal should take the promoting responsibility for the development of the school and establishment of the spiritual world of teachers and students.Additionally,he needs to dominate the teacher's development,strengthen their teaching willingness,improve their ethics and professional development level,and enhance their teaching quality.Meanwhile,the student is the main body of education;the principal should set up correct education concept,provide the platform for the students to develop and show their talents,and create favorable conditions and atmosphere.Coordination is to create a harmonious environment for the development of the school.As the coordinator,the principal should coordinate the internal relationship in the school in order to create a righteous internal atmosphere;furthermore,he should coordinate the external relationship well,including relations with the superior educational administration,the community and the parents;it also includes various resources,e.g.human resources and property in order to run the school well.Meanwhile,the principal should coordinate himself well so as to fully enjoy the happiness of education.Finally,as to the existing problems facing the principal,the constraining bottleneck of the role orientation for him can be solved through perfecting the evaluation system.Especially,against the background of deepening educational reform,improvements of the principal's professional ability and level,we can improve education quality through improving the principal's professional skills.
