A Comparative Study Of The Achievements And Facilities By Public And Private Secondary Schools In Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa,Pakistan

Schooling is one of the key factors in development of an individual and as a whole contributes significantly to the socio-economic development of a nation(ref).Framed under descriptive quantitative research design,the current study is the description of comparing the facilities provided by public sector and private sector schools to students and teachers and the academic achievements of public and private sector schools in Peshawar,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,Pakistan.This study was based on two objectives;first,to compare various facilities provided by private and public sector schools to students and teachers;and second,to know about the academic achievements of private and public sector schools.Sampling for study has been done randomly whereby 400 students(200 from public while 200 private sector)from schools were sample whereas 40 teachers(20 from public while 20 from private sector)were sample comprising a total of 440 sample size.Two different questionnaires were designed for teachers and students in order to collect the desired information.'The collected information has been analyzed in tabular form including frequencies and percentages along with its description and major findings.Findings of the study reveal that private sector schools are better in provision of some facilities students whereas public school sector schools are better in provision of other sort of facilities to students.Public and private schools are good and almost similar in provision of physical infrastructural facilities to students.With regard to condition of building and aesthetics,in some aspects private sector is better while in others public sector is better.In terms of classroom conditions,public schools are better in majority of aspects.Further,private schools are slightly better in acoustics than public sector schools.In terms of educational and teaching facilities,private schools are better in some aspects whereas public schools are better in other aspects.However,private sector schools are much better in provision of transport facilities to students.Most importantly,private sector schools are better in academic achievements as compared to public sectors schools.A similar situation has been found with regard to provision of facilities to teachers whereby in terms of management and leadership private school management and leadership is better in managing class timetables for teachers and regularity of teachers whereas public sector schools are better in giving specialized subjects to teachers.Further,public sector schools are better in provision of library to teachers while private schools are better in provision of audio-visual aids to teachers.However,in terms of salary public schools are much better than private schools.With regard to the facility of training for teachers both public and private schools are poor,however,public schools are slightly better.On the other hand,private schools are better in terms of the facility of parent teacher contact.
