Sports Competition has been an high-impact social and cultural activity in modern society,the wonderful sports events tend to make hundreds of millions of people out.Why do people keen to watch sports games?It meets what needs of spectators?By taking“spectators’ motivation”as the main object of study and using literature,questionnaires,interviews and other research methods,this paper discusses competitive sports property from the perspective of culture and aesthetics.Through investigating and analyzing spectators’ motivation,the paper with depth interview to explain the specific needs of spectators and the reason of“why do they watch sports?”At last,the paper puts forward some proposals and expectation of sports competitive exhibition,in order to provide the basis of theory and reality for the development of sports competition-showing market and the sports industry.The result shows as the follow:1.Sports competition has rich cultural connotation and aesthetic implication,it is a physical and cultural activity based on body,which has distinct antagonism.As a kind of scocial practical activity with asthetic value of art,Sports competition shows the beauty of biological life,spiritual life and social life.2.Sports competition has the competitive performance character which can be used for spectators to watch;spectators have the need to watch sports competitions and performances;Spectators’ needs are the survival and development soil of sports competition,and the core value of sports competition lies in satisfying spectators’ needs.The needs and motives of spectators are the driving forces and internal reasons for their watching behavior.3.The order of spectators’ motivation level is affiliation,aesthetic,exciting,knowledge stimulate,hero worship and entertainment.Different demographic variables have different motivation factors.Generally speaking,well-educated spectators have higher level than low-educated on whole motivation subscale,and in-service staffs are higher than retiree.Middle-senior hierarchies are higher on exciting and entertainment subscale,males and young spectators are higher than females and middle-age on exciting subscale.4.Sports competition meets the needs of people’s psychological,emotional,spiritual and cultural needs.The reasons why sports competition can meet spectators’ needs and why spectators want to watch it are,first,it caused by the essential attribute,cultural and aesthetic values of sports competition;second,ornamental element of sports competition and the source of spectators psychology have corresponding relationship;The interaction of these factors makes sports competition has a unique attraction and appeal.5.We can by means of enhancing the quality of sports competitive exhibition;fostering sports stars;making use of medium to increase ornamental value of competition-showing and enlarge quantity of spectators;paying attention to aesthetic education and creating a spectator group who both can comprehend and appreciate sports to promote the development of sports competition-showing markets.6.Competition-showing and watching activity are the product of the times,they are influenced by mass culture and the Experience Economy.Sports competitive exhibition will be guided by high-tech and new media in future.It will merge sports and art together and be a socio-culture activity.
