Art is a transcendental spiritual experiment, which is rooted from the essence of life.Every major change in material life leads to changes in artistic concepts and methods. When talking about the most far-reaching revolution in social production since the mid-20 th century,it probably is the "Digital Revolution" characterized by the wide application of computers and internet. Some people even call it as the "Fourth Industrial Revolution" which affects a new trend of human history. The "Digitalization" has gradually influenced every field of people’s social life.Looking back on 1952,Ben F.Laposky, the American scientist, mathematician and artist, created a digital art work "Electronic Abstraction",which was considered as the beginning of computer image art,it even was regarded as the beginning of avant-garde computer art.Artists began to try to use the "digital" method to try new artistic expression, and gradually triggered a new trend of contemporary visual art.Among the jungles of contemporary art,the wonderful works of "Digital Art" were blooming.Among them, the "Digital Visual Art" achievement aimed at stimulating visual aesthetic perception is the most attractive one.The germination, exploration and new experiment of "Digital Visual Art" has gradually stepped out of the barrier of traditional art category, and posed a subversive challenge to the art practice history of "Pre-digital Era".In the exploration of innovation, challenge, anxiety and re-experimentation,the new phenomenon of "Digital Visual Art" provides excellent case materials for rethinking the essence of art,and forms a frontier topic of art with academic value.Taking "Digital Visual Art" as the major key word, this dissertation aims to focus on answering a core question: Is contemporary digital visual art a kind of "New Image" that subverts the "existence decides consciousness" ? Specifically, this question can be described as: in what ways does contemporary digital visual art surpass traditional artistic practice, and in what sense is it deeply rooted in the tradition of life and practice? As a practical way of visual art,is "Digital" the essence and destination,or the way and means? Is the "Digitalization" of visual art a murder or a salvation of the seemingly hopeless and hopeless of contemporary art? Facing with the myth and hesitation of digital visual art,how should we safeguard the dignity of human nature’s free art creation and avoid the "alienation" outcome of "Human enslaved by objects ".In order to answer the above questions, this dissertation demonstrates the following logic.Firstly, chapter I traces back the origin of "Digitalization" of visual art,and sorts out the origin and development of this important turn of visual art in the context of historical, ideological and scientific changes.Secondly, chapter II outlines the efforts procedure of contemporary experimental artists to seek a breakthrough in traditional art through the "Digitization" media, and analyses the representative figures and their visual art "Digitization" presentation results.Thirdly,on the basis of the foregoing background, from specific to abstract,it tries to summarize the two characteristics of contemporary digital visual art, namely "Nonmaterial" and "Borderless".As the key of this dissertation, this part uses the Chapter III and Chapter IV to discuss it respectively. Finally,in order to further improve the academic position,by using the perspective of art philosophy or aesthetics to analyze the challenges and opportunities of digital visual art to traditional art, this dissertation explains and responds from the standpoint of practical materialism and humanitarianism, which is the difficulty of the article, and the best expression of the author’s views and voices as well.
