The image of China in Russian literature in the new period originated from the cognition and spread of the image of China by Russians in the past.It is the continuity of the traditional image of China in Russia.Meanwhile,it changed enormously during the new period. This paper tries to analyze the types, characteristics and causes of the image of China in Russian literature in the new period by using the theory of the Imagology of Comparative Literature, based on the literary works written by Pelevin,Sorokin and Krusanov as the research objects. The image of China in Russian literature in the new period is philosophical, independent, and experimental, basically presents as three types: the penetrating image of the classic Chinese philosophy, the humanoriented traditional image of Chinese culture and the negative image of China. The penetrating image of the classic Chinese philosophy originated from the image of the "land of philosophers",which constructed by the Russians in the 18 th century. In the recent era of Russian literature,Russian writers have been still focusing on Chinese philosophy.Among them,"Mohism" written by Kucherskaya,"Dream Allusions" and the Taoist written by Pelevin are the most distinctive. They have a deeper understanding of Chinese metaphysical thoughts and more skillful on taking advantage of Chinese philosophical classics. The "Mohism" written by Kucherskaya has been described as a "safe haven" for her hero.It dispels the anxiety of the loss of Russian cultural identity with the help of "exoticism".The image of China portrayed by Pelevin is often mixed with thinking about the Taoist doctrine and the living conditions of contemporary Russians. He combined Chinese philosophy with the writer's consciousness, and promoted it to the height of aesthetics,so that the image of China he wrote had a poetic and mystic character. The human-oriented traditional image of Chinese culture is a particularly prominent type in Russian literature in the new period. With the rise of China,it has changed and become a world power that can compete with the United States. In the eyes of the contemporary Russian writers,China is no longer a reference for Western issues, but a world power with its own characteristics and independence.China's success attracted their attention, and the theme of "marriage between China and Russia" became popular in contemporary Russian literature. Its roots can be traced back to the "Eurasianism" in 19 th century. The "mixed-race tsars" created by Krusanov and the "Eurasian Empire" created by Zayick all belong to this type. The generation of such images is closely related to the improvement of Chinese national strength and the expansion of national influence in recent years, and it is a feedback of Russian writers' perception of contemporary China. The self-examination negative image of China stems from the influence of the "Yellow peril" prevailing in the 19 th century on the Russians, which has been exacerbated by the "China threat theory" that the international community has hyped up in recent years. It still exists in Russian literature in the new period, and shows a clear experimental nature, mainly reflected in the strange "Chinese blue smoke" written by Klimovskaya, the "funny" priests written by Dolenko, and "CHINA XXI" written by Sorokin. The image of China written by Klimovskaya consists in examining the Soviet society by using the image of Chinese laborer, and insinuating the fear and trauma left by the "Great Purge" to the people. The "funny" Taoist priests described by Dolenko consisted in using Chinese Taoism to satirize Mr Putin and were closely connected with his personal political stance. The image written by Sorokin reflects the crisis awareness and "envy-jealous" that occur in Russians when face in the rapid development of China.
