At the end of the Western Han Dynasty,Buddhism spread eastward to the Han region. After the Eastern Han Dynasty,Buddhism gradually became popular in the society and developed rapidly in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties. The Eastern Spread of Buddhism is a process of contacting foreign cultures with traditional Chinese culture and concepts in an all-round way. They not only debate and fight with each other, but also gradually made some self adjustment and integrates into each other. In the process of mutual negotiation,Buddhist concepts extensively penetrated into Ideological and cultural fields, political rule, economic development and other fields, with which the life of imperial families, literati, people and other social strata were mixed. With the extensive translation and dissemination of Buddhist scriptures,Buddhist scriptures with strong literariness opened a convenient door for teaching and spreading Buddhist scriptures. This led to the influence of Buddhist ideology on the literary creation of mystery novels, which tended to be mature and prosperous in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties.A number of novels written by Buddhists aimed at promoting Buddhist teachings appeared, which were called "Buddhist Auxiliary Books".It can be said that the development of mystery novels has a close relationship with Buddhist culture. This paper attempts to make a thorough study of the development characteristics, subject matter and concept of mystery novels in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties, summarize several types and analyze them,so as to further explore the relationship between Buddhism and Chinese mystery novels in this period. The thesis is composed of four chapters: introduction and body. The introduction mainly discusses the purpose and content of the paper, makes a brief review of academic research, and determines the research methods and textual basis of this paper. The first chapter,"The prosperity of Buddhism in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties",mainly combs the characteristics of Buddhism prevailing in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties and the process of Buddhist Scripture translation, and expounds the profound influence of Buddhism spread to the East on various social strata. With the development of metaphysics in China,Mahayana Prajna Theory once became a prominent theory. With the increase of Buddhist translation and further exploration of Buddhist thought, various theory emerged, which expanded the spread of Buddhism in China. The translation of Buddhist scriptures has undergone a process of development from oral translation to the establishment of translation sites, from literal translation to free translation, and then to the combination of the two.The emergence of a large number of Chinese version of Buddhist scriptures provides theoretical preparation for the localization of Buddhism.Buddhist literature with literary implication and interest in Buddhist scriptures promotes the elucidation of Buddhist doctrine and the dissemination of Buddhist ideas.Under such circumstances, the imperial family, scholars and humanists, and the people worship Buddhism from top to bottom.Buddhist culture permeates into the spiritual thoughts and daily life of all social strata and becomes an important part of the Chinese society.Chapter ?,"The Stories of mystery in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties",examines the origin and characteristics of the development of mystery novels in Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, and explores the reasons why mystery novels absorb Buddhist nutrients. The myths and legends, superstitions such as witches and ghosts, and the myths and legends of the Warring States and the Han Dynasty gradually developed and flourished the myths and legends of the Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.Although the evaluation of fiction in ancient China has been low,and fiction is only a vassal of historical books with little value and is on the edge of the literary world,in the course of its tenacious growth, the mystery fiction in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties shows unprecedented magnificence, showing new characteristics in the number of fiction, the creative team, the subject matter and the artistic expression. The reasons are related to the nurturing and nurturing of Buddhism. The creator practices Confucianism and Buddhism concurrently. The rich Buddhist stories and true Buddhist beliefs in Buddhist literature meet the development needs of mystery novel, broaden the horizon of Chinese literature and enrich the literature category.Chapter Three,"The Buddhist Subjects of Mystery Novels in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties",discusses and analyses the Buddhist Subjects of mystery Novels in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties. There are four main themes: Buddhist Scripture literature deduction,Avalokitesvara fulfillment, monks and nuns mysterious,Buddhism and Chinese thought collision and fusion. This paper combs the origin and change of the subject matter of the mystery novel deduced by Buddhist Scripture literature, and makes an analysis of its variation. It further sums up and classifies the works of the three themes, and describes them one by one,in order to see the relationship between them and Buddhist sutras, and expounds the practical significance of these themes.Chapter ?,"The Spirit of Buddhism in Mystery Novels of Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties",discusses the spiritual world of Buddhism presented in Mystery Novels of Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties, including the space-time view of three generations, the view of retribution of cause and effect, and the view of hell whose soul is immortal.Buddhism has a completely different concept of time and space, outlook on life and morality from the mainland of China, with good and evil cause and effect, and six reincarnation as the main body. When these concepts appeared in the face of mysterious stories, they all conveyed the theme of advising good and punishing evil to the people. These works became an important channel for the secularization of Buddhist concepts in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties. While Buddhism is actively infiltrating,it is also constantly adjusting to adapt to the Chinese culture, resulting in some works reflecting the mixed thoughts of Buddhism,Confucianism and Taoism.
