The current research usually considers "Art museology " as a subsystem of museology.Scholars often use the method and theory of museology to make the art museum research.However,compared with museology,the Art museum in China has its particularity in initiation,historical development,operation,management and a series of problems.This article takes the art museum as the object of cultural research,through the investigation of the historical context and social context of art galleries,tries to clarify the internal logic of the birth of art galleries in China after the founding of the nation.This Dissertation holds that under the dual power rule of "ideology and professional construction",Chinese art galleries are not "art museums" and "non-profit institutions" under our usual concept,but have identity uniqueness.Among the mixed identities with Chinese characteristics,art galleries are not only faced with management problems and reform difficulties,when measuring art galleries by public value standards,the basic functions of collection,public education,research,planning and so on reveal multiple contradictions and problems.However,the author believes that this kind of problem not only refers to the art galleries ’s own function and legitimacy,but also takes art galleries as the social representation of culture,showing the related problems of cultural construction after the founding of the nation.This article from the macroscopic history and power,the mesoscopic system and identity,the microscopic value and the function,carries out the discussion by the focusing layer-progressive questioning,thus constructs the post-founding art galleries ’s overall appearance.In the Introduction,the reason,research significance,method,path and present situation of the topic are expounded.The first chapter collates the development of art galleries in China after the founding of New China,follows the clues of "ideology" and "professional construction",takes the creation of National Art Museum of China as an example,analyzes the external and self-logic affecting the development of the Art museum,and further reveal the power and institutional elements affecting the art galleries world.In the second chapter,the investigation of more than 100 art galleries in China presents the unique identity of our art galleries,points out that it is not the usual concept of "art museums" and "non-profit Institutions",and reveals the difficulties of reform faced under its mixed identity;the third chapter,through the comparative study of the concept of "public",points out that when "the public is centered" Value standard to analyze the art museum collection,public education,research,planning and other functions,showing the museum’s specific problems and legitimacy crisis.In order to make a reasonable and clear argument,this dissertation involves history,sociology,management and other disciplines,deprive of the primary archives,data and other materials,uses the historical research,comparative research,empirical research and other methods,hoping it could construct the perspective of art galleries met the practices in China,and reveal the relevant issues in the current cultural development.
