Intuition And Moral Cultivation:An Interpretation On Lu Jiuyuan’s Philosophy

As one of the main representatives of the school of mind,Lu jiuyuan has always been one of the focuses of researches.In order to interpret Lu Jiuyuan’s philosophy better,it is necessary to sort out the research results of Lu Jiuyuan until now.Many researchers have noticed that Lu jiuyuan pays attention on intuition and intuitionism,but sufficient expansion is not enough,which provides the premise for the discussion in this paper.It is obvious that Lu jiuyuan cannot leave the background of Chinese philosophy when he explicates the propositions on intuition and intuitionism.On the other hand,as a contemporary research,the interpretation on Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy cannot ommit the view of western philosophy.It is undoubtedly helpful to deepen the understanding of Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy when put Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy in a broader view.The above aspects constitute the basic background of this paper.In Lu jiuyuan’s vision,intuition and intuitionism are associated with moral cultivation.Thus,intuition and intuition cannot be separated from moral cultivation.The relationship between intuition,intuitionism and moral cultivation is embodied as the intuition of moral cultivation and the moral cultivation of intuition;through intuitionism to moral cultivation and through intuition to moral cultivation.In fact,the differences between intuition and intuitionism is whether it is necessary to accumulate in moral cultivation:intuition make sure that there should be a process of accumulation,but intuitionism is not.From the whole point of view,the intuition,intuitionalism and moral cultivation of Lu jiuyuan’s vision are in the realm of morality.Lu jiuyuan made metaphysical clarification on the problem of intuition,intuitionism and moral cultivation,which means the possibility and grounds of intuition,intuitionism and moral cultivation.Through the metaphysical interpretation on the inseparabilityand unity of the benxin本心,,and changelessness不易 Lu jiuyuan has completed the description of the basement of intuitionism.When Lu jiuyuan takes mind as the core in his philosophical system,he realized that the heart could not be separated from the reality.Thus Lu jiuyuan puts the concret mind具体的心 linked with changeable 变易,answered the basis of intuition from the metaphysical level.When intuition and intuitionism have their own basis,Lu jiuyuan also needs to make an explanation of moral cultivation in the field of intuition and intuitionism,he used simplicity change易简.Therefore,on the whole,the mind of the two-oriented(benxin本心;the concret mind具体的心)with multiple meanings of yi 易(changelessness不易,simplicity change 易简 and change 变易),which provides the possibilities of the expansion of intuition,intuitionism and moral cultivation.Then the question will become the process of intuition and moral cultivation.From the view of Lu jiuyuan,qi 气,yu欲,opinion 意见 are three main reasons for the problem of obstruction of benxin本心.Recovering benxin本心 should be intuitive way,including close to teachers and friends,reading and meditation.In the sense of dissolving,the moral cultivation of intuitionism undoubtedly shows the meaning of breaking,that is,accumulation is not emphasized.Benxin本心is also associated with the specific things,embodied in wugefuwu物各付物,tui推,guohuacunshen过化存神,which is easy to overlook in the past to discuss the problem.Although Lu jiuyuan has an exploration of both through intuitionism to moral cultivation and through intuition to moral cultivation,in the strong sense of the theory of the mind,Lu jiuyuan has more emphasis on intuitionism to moral cultivation.On the one hand,the ethical intuitionism of Lu jiuyuan is very complicated and rich,which reflects both the dimension of epistemological ethical intuitionism and the aspect of methodological ethical intuitionism.The further discussion on the above issues is to compare Lu jiuyuan’s views with the theory of Robert Audi.On the other hand,for Lu jiuyuan,the moral cultivation of intuitionism can easily slide into mysticism.The inner tension of intuitionism and mysticism is particularly clear in Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy.However,Lu jiuyuan has never deviated from the Confucian tradition of rationalism during his learning process,and emphasized the significance of reason in both through intuitionism to moral cultivation and through intuition to moral cultivation.This reason is not the reason of the western way,but it covers many aspects such as emotion and perception,which involves the broad sense of cognition and evaluation.It is through the broad using of reason and language that Lu jiuyuan has not gone to mysticism in the fierce struggle between intuitionism and mysticism.All in all,we can find some insights through the view of intuition,intuition and moral cultivation in Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy.But insight is always associated with the cover.As a philosopher,Lu jiuyuan’s dual nature of mind cannot be explained in his system.Moreover,it is no doubt that the points on the object is priori in his philosophy.These problems mentioned above are insurmountable by Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy itself.As a theory in history,Lu jiuyuan’s theoretical problems will need to be solved later.Although the interpretation on Lu jiuyuan’s philosophy is a theoretical study,the ultimate goal for moral philosophy is practice.Meantime,Lu jiuyuan’s views on intuition,intuitionism and moral cultivation will also help us to clarify the misinterpretation of intuition.Intuition is not mysterious.In some sense,intuition is the primary method of moral practice for common people.
